Privacy Policy
Last Updated: January 25, 2026
Hi đź‘‹
I'm Leif, a solo developer building Best Pizza in Town. This privacy policy explains what data I collect when you visit this website and what I do with it. I keep things simple and transparent because that's how I'd want to be treated.
What Data I Collect
When you visit bestpizzaintown.net, a few things happen automatically:
Web Analytics (Vercel Web Analytics)
I use Vercel Web Analytics to understand how people use this site—like which pizza places are most popular and which countries get the most visits. Here's what gets tracked:
- Page views - Which pages you visit
- Referrer - Where you came from (e.g., Google, Bluesky, a friend's link)
- Geographic location - Your approximate location (country, city, region) based on your internet provider
- Device info - Whether you're on mobile, tablet, or desktop
- Browser - What browser you're using (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, etc.)
- URL & query parameters - The page you're on
Important: Vercel Web Analytics does NOT:
- Use cookies to track you across different websites
- Store your IP address with your data
- Collect your personal information (no names, emails, or IDs)
- Create a profile about you
- Keep session data longer than 24 hours
All of this data is anonymous and aggregated—I can see "100 people from Germany visited today," but I can't see who you are or track you individually.
Google Fonts
This site uses Google Fonts to display the Inter font nicely. When the font loads, Google may log a request with your approximate location and browser info. This is minimal and happens during font delivery optimization.
Google Maps Links
When you click on a pizza restaurant card, it opens Google Maps with the restaurant's location. Your browser sends your location data to Google at that moment, but only because you clicked—it's not automatic. This is controlled by your browser and Google's terms.
Search Query Parameters
When you filter countries (e.g., ?q=germany), this stays in your URL. I don't store it, send it anywhere, or track what you search for. It's just for the page to remember your filter while you're browsing.
How I Use This Data
I use the analytics data to:
- See how many people visit and which pizza places/countries are most popular
- Understand if the site is working well
- Improve the design and layout based on user behavior
- Make sure the site is mobile-friendly
- Occasionally spot weird spikes (like if something viral happens)
I don't use this data to:
- Sell it to anyone
- Target you with ads
- Build a profile about your browsing habits
- Share it with third parties (except the platforms that collect it: Vercel and Google)
Who Sees This Data
Me (the developer): I can see aggregated analytics in the Vercel dashboard (like "1,000 page views today from 450 unique visitors in 30 countries").
Vercel: They operate the analytics platform and can see your data according to their privacy policy.
Google: They see requests to Google Fonts and any data you send when clicking Google Maps links.
No one else: I don't share, sell, or distribute your data to marketers, data brokers, or advertisers.
Your Privacy Rights
Under GDPR, CCPA, and other privacy laws, you have rights:
Right to Access
You can ask me what data I have about you. Since I only see aggregated analytics (not individual profiles), there's probably very little tied to you specifically.
Right to Delete
You can ask me to delete any data about you. Since all session data auto-deletes after 24 hours anyway, and I don't store personal profiles, there's usually nothing to delete.
Right to Opt-Out
You can:
- Use your browser's "Do Not Track" setting (Vercel respects this)
- Disable JavaScript (though the site works better with it)
- Use privacy-focused browsers (Tor, Brave, etc.)
Note: Opting out means I won't see analytics data about your visit, but core site features still work.
Right to Export
If I stored personal data about you, you could ask for a copy. But since I don't maintain user profiles, there's nothing to export.
How to Exercise These Rights
Email me: mail@leif.computer
I'll respond within 30 days. For requests like "delete my data," I'll explain what data exists (usually nothing specific to you since analytics are aggregated) and help if there's anything to act on.
Data Retention
- Analytics data: Vercel keeps it aggregated; individual session data is deleted after 24 hours
- Search queries: Never stored (only in your URL/browser history)
- Personal data: I don't collect or store any
No Cookies
Vercel Web Analytics does not use cookies to track you. It uses a hash generated from your incoming request, which is much more privacy-friendly.
Some cookies might be set by external services:
- Google Fonts - May set cookies during font delivery
- Bluesky - When loading pizza images from their CDN, Bluesky's servers may set technical cookies (like
AWSALBCORS) for load balancing and request handling. These cookies are not used for tracking and expire with your session.
I don't set cookies myself.
No Children's Data
This site is not targeted at people under 13. If you're under 13, please ask a parent or guardian before visiting. If I learn that someone under 13 has provided personal data, I'll delete it promptly.
Subprocessors
Vercel may use subprocessors to operate their analytics service. You can see their list here: Vercel Subprocessors
Changes to This Policy
I might update this policy if:
- My data practices change
- I add new features or tools
- Laws change
- Something important gets clarified
I'll update the "Last Updated" date at the top. For major changes, I'll try to add a notice on the site.
Questions or Concerns?
If you have questions about this policy or privacy practices, reach out:
Email: mail@leif.computer
Bluesky: @bestpizzaintown.bsky.social
I'm just one person running this project, so I appreciate your patience. I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
TL;DR
- I use Vercel Web Analytics to see which pizzas are popular
- Vercel doesn't use cookies; your data is anonymous
- I don't sell, share, or profit from your data
- You can email me about privacy concerns
- This site is friendly to privacy and complies with GDPR/CCPA
That's it. Enjoy finding great pizza! 🍕
